In Defense of Mornings

I know many people are NOT morning people (my wife included), but I really love being a morning person.   And here's why.  You are awake when the day is so quiet and peaceful, before the noise and busyness takes over.  You get to enjoy seeing the sun come up and splash color across the world.  You get to enjoy the smell of morning dew.

Today, Memorial Day, when my entire city slept in, I got up early and I:

-ran 6 miles
-ate breakfast
-read the newspaper online
-blogged
-cuddled with my son/fed him too
-mowed the lawn
-took a shower

all before 9:00am!

I am not saying morning people are better at all...shoot, I crash early in the evening many times...I even fell asleep at the Drive in the other night....but, I am saying I love the feeling of accomplishing so much early in the day.   Sleeping in has it's place, and there are times indeed when your body needs that extra rest, but for me I really think I am starting to enjoy getting up early (and by early, I am only talking like 6AM here, nothing too crazy......)  Maybe that means I am getting old....

I love the early morning hours, too. But I like sleeping in even better. ;D

I hope your neighbors didn't mind you mowing your lawn in the wee hours of the morning. ha ha

I can't do mornings. I want to, I know I should, but i just can't. More exciting stuff happens at 1AM, I think. :o)

That's a great start to the day!

I am totally with you. There is just something about the mornings - the peacefulness, the possibility of what the day might hold. I am my best then. That is, if I have a big cup of coffee...

Apparently Shakespeare once said (or perhaps one of the characters in his plays said) "The world belongs to those who get up early". I totally believe this, and up until this year have lived it!

(I work as a presenter now for a night radio program so my clock is all topsy turvy).

Well done on having such a productive morning Oz!

Sorry for the late response, but I have been a bad blogger lately. The race has probably come and gone and the root canal ,ay be a distant memory, but I never had any trouble with dental work and running. I hope you got the advice you needed.

ah i love being productive in the morning like that! sometimes it's nice to sleep in/be lazy but it feels good to have so much done by 9:00am (or whatever time). i always liked going for an early am run and coming back and knowing the neighbors still weren't up yet/were just waking up, and i'd already run x miles.

I am with you on the morning thing. When I do drag myself out of bed, I'm never disappointed! I just need to work on doing it more, the more you do it, I think the easier it gets. Plus yeah, that feeling of getting so much done when everyone else is sleeping is pretty good.

I'm with you - being a morning person makes getting things done so much easier. It sure makes being a runner much easier, especially since most races are run early in the morning.

Wow, you certainly got a whole lot more done by 9am than I did all day yesterday. I should have mowed my lawn too but decided to take a whole day off from working out (it usually takes me 1-2 hours and I sweat as much as if I'd run for that long).

I am always jealous of people like you who can get up early enough to accomplish that many things by 9am! I wish I was a morning person, but I'm just not!
