Things Learned During My Early Morning Runs...

I like to run in the morning...most of the time I run around 6am...sometimes as early as 5am.....I've learned a few things during my early morning runs....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Most of my neighborhood is asleep in warm, cozy beds while I am out running in the dark and cold
*I love running by houses that have motion sensor lights on their garage doors and tripping them on
*I regularly see school buses, the newpaper delivery person, and a lady walking her dog
*About 0 out of 10 kids waiting for the school bus ever wave to me, even though I usually wave to them
*Not many morning runners in my neighborhood.....I've only seen one other runner in the last 6 months during my early morning runs, although I have seen some later in the day or evening
*It's hard to see large stones or sticks in the dark....and if there is one in my path, odds are that I'll step on it
*It's amazing how many stop signs are run in the early morning...
*Unless I'm going to run more than 5 miles, I dont' need to eat or drink anything before my morning runs
*I always try to go to the bathroom before my morning runs, so I don't get "stuck"
*It takes my body and mind at least a mile to wake up/loosen up
*Morning runs make me feel more energized for the day

I love tripping sensor lights too! My group used to run at the river at 5:30a twice a week, it was so peaceful and amazing. We plan on starting up again this summer (we are fair weather girls after all;) if you ever wanna join, it's the best morning run EVER in this city!

I wish I could train myself to get up earlier. When I do get up (rare), I really enjoy it.

I miss running in the morning... sometimes. I'll be glad when it gets light earlier in the a.m. so I can run in the morning when I feel like it. I can't believe those little punks don't wave to you. What's wrong with the youth of today?! ha ha :D

Having a second shift job lets me do my runs in the morning too when I like them the best! My best time is between 7:30-8ish.

Early morning WEEKEND runs are downright eerie! It's beautiful out there in the peaceful hush though.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. I'm with you on the 5+ miles before I take anything to eat or drink. The one exception is if I'm running on a very hot day.

Neat learnings. I hope to be running in the morning again soon. :-)

Kudos to your early morning runs ... I'm lucky if I'm out of bed before 9 :-)

I remember when we lived in Eugene, OR and I'd go for morning runs - the two biggest hazards were 1) sprinklers kicking on (everyone had them) and 2) curbside mailboxes. If I could avoid those, I loved the morning runs. When we lived in Maine, it was even better - running in the central Maine mountains as the fog would rise from the Androscoggin River valley, seeing deer, moose, etc.

I love morning runs!!! They seem to go faster, smoother and offer more peace then a later day run. I also love runs at night in the dark - I run faster. :D

I've done them before but I truly hate them. I need daylight.....

I sounds like we have the same thoughts when I run except I have thoughts like, "that guy looks like he wants to hurt me," or "that van looks like Chester the Molester lives there."

Remember, I'm the weird one....

We must live in different school districts - every time I run by kids I usually get at least one smart aleck comment...I even got a creepy "hey baby, can I get your number" once from a kid that looked like he was about TWELVE!! Yeah, I'm waaayy too old for you, buddy.
