Beginning Running Again

I haven't run for about 2 1/2 weeks, it's driving me crazy. But, I am giving my calf a few more days before I start running again. I actually feel ready, and feel strong enough, but when talking to a running buddy of mine he said calf strains take 3 weeks to heal, so I am heeding that advice.

My mother in law got me a great Barnes and Nobles gift card for my birthday, and I was really torn between three or four books on running. In the end, I settled on "Runner's World Complete Book of Beginning Running." My wife said, "why are you getting a book on beginning running?" Well, truthfully, I'm still a beginner. I've only been running for a little over a year, and I have TONs to learn. This book is full of great information on running, from Diet and Nutrition, to Training, to Injury Prevention. Some of the things in the book I already knew, some I didn't. Some, I just needed reminded. It will be a great resource to have around, and I've already read a couple chapters. If you're looking for a good resource about running, check this book out.

hey stranger. so you opting out of the turkey trot? that book will be awesome i'm sure. and, just FYI, there is a GREAT yoga class over lunch break i've been going to at the N Y. it's only 45 minutes, and you never get sweaty, but she is a great teacher, really good at stretching you out. it's the monday-wednesday class. also, the class is about half men, so you wouldn't be alone there ;)

You're smart for giving your calf more rest!

I LOVE getting gift cards for books! Sounds like you picked a good one.

Think of this as mental toughness cross-training. It's an impressive thing to stay inside when you're itching to go out and run. Hopefully you be ready to get back at it by next week.

I've been running for 3 years and STILL think of myself as a beginner. I think that's a healthy stance to take, and so is giving yourself time to heal. I hope I can be as patient if and when I hurt myself. . .

i received your "hello" from Angie D. yesterday. It took me a minute, because I didn't know your name. What a small world we live in. One day we'll actually say hello in person!

I have been looking for a good beginning runners book! I think I'll have to check that out. I am TOTALLY new to running. I think I will forever feel like a beginner. There is so much more to running than I thought.

Just came across your blog and thought i'd stop by. I love checking out running blogs. I like to steal tips and pick veteran runners brains for advice! lol
