121 Laps = 11 miles

Yesterday was supposed to be my long run, 11 miles, but we got 7 inches of snow here, so my workout yesterday consisted of shoveling the driveway twice, building a snowman, and beating the boys in a snowball fight.

Today I decided to do my long run indoors, at the YMCA.  It's a short little loop track, and 11 laps equals a mile.  I needed to do 11 miles, which meant 121 dizzying laps.

I have never run indoors before, but I kind of liked not having to deal with traffic, the wind, or hills.  And the soft rubberized surface was a nice change of pace for my feet.

I felt really good and if the distance is accurate, I was going at about a 9:20-9:30 pace, faster than my pace outdoors.  I felt really good until the last few laps, when I could feel a blister on the back of my heel.  I was running in some new shoes.  Well, not new technically, they are my Asics that I got at the first of the year, but I hadn't run in them for a couple months since I was testing some New Balance.

Well I sent the NB back this week and returned to my Asics, with a new insert, and I think the insert raised my foot just enough to cause it to rub on my heel.  I didn't really notice until the last mile or so, but now it's really bugging me.  I will have to see if I continue with the Asics or go back to my Nike's, which I still really love.

By the way, I really love the Orange Burst GU as long run fuel.   I have tried a few GU flavors and decided this one is my favorite.   Hopefully they have some at the OKC race in April.

Side Note:  Just a side note to those that have been asking how I kept track of the laps. I actually didn't.  I kept track of my time.  I timed my laps about every five laps to tell what pace I was on, and ran for an hour and 45 minutes, based on the avg per lap I estimate I ran 11 miles, or 121 laps.  Not an exact science, but pretty accurate I think.

You have got to be kidding - 121 laps!!! That is dedication my friend. After about 20 I would've quit!
I just bought 2 of the orange burst Gu at an expo yesterday. I'll have to give it a try.

I'm not going to be original here..but OMFG...121 laps? (this means nothing of course, coming from a regular dreadmill runner), but seriously, how did you even keep count?

I had an Orange Burst Gu, but my sugar tooth daughter got ahold of it first, and thought it was a treat. I guess that's a good thing?

Dang - you're not kidding about "dizzying"! How on earth did you keep track of your laps?

Great job getting that done!

I bought some Orange Burst GU at the expo last weekend but haven't had the chance to use it.

Great job on your indoor run, I bet it was boring BUT you stuck with it.

I ran alot indoors this winter. At first its hard, but then I started to like it. You can leave your water/food off to the side, and the washroom is always available. Good job on your 11 miles.

Ahhh, the familiar Y lap sign, I ran that track many miles over lunches in Jan/Feb! I wish I would have known you were running inside, my group did 11 (I did 14) and were going to do it at the NW Y but on my way out there I saw they cleared the paths at zoo park. So we changed our plans. But be glad you did it inside, it was stupid windy... surprise, surprise ;) Congrats on a great run and great time! One month!

I think I would get dizzy with that many laps. Nice job getting the long run in.

WOW, that's a lot of snow, and a lot of laps indoors! Great crosstraining too :)

Good for you, Oz....getting it in on the track! Very wise, too, with coming back from the foot injury. You're going to be in fine shape for OKC!

I actually don't mind tracks either, but the only one in our city is outdoors so I might as well just use my TM when I'm looking for something other than a regular, outdoors run.

Ha, and people laughed at me for running an indoor marathon! That was 150 laps but the laps were much larger than yours, thankfully. Way to get your run in!

121 laps? That seems like it is one step above a treadmill. At least with a treadmill, you can watch tv. Didn't the scenery get horribly boring?

Funny. I have only tried Orange Burst once... and I gagged. It was bad. My hubby scored a whole bunch of free Gu a while back. Unfortunately, most of them are orange. If he doesn't like them either, I might be able to send you some. No sense wasting it when there is a fan out there! ;-)

Great job on your 11 miles.
