TGIF Foto Friday--For the Birds!

There has been a nest in the front yard of our tree for a couple months now. We've watched the mother bird sit on her eggs through several violent storms.  About a week ago, the eggs hatched and we saw there were some baby birds in the nest.

Two days ago, my wife discovered these birds in our garage.  They were hopping around in the corner.  So, she put them in a box to keep them safe and to figure out what to do. (our boys loved this by the way--they wanted to keep the birds as pets)

After consulting friends and looking online, everything seemed to say to leave them alone where they were, so the mother could take care of them.  So that night we put the box underneath the tree in the front yard, and thought they would hop out during the night.  In the morning when I got up they were still in the box, so I tipped the box over and encouraged them to hop out.   Within minutes the mother bird was flying around the tree trying to figure out what to do.  They hopped away into the neighbors yard, and we haven't seen them since.  Hope a stray cat didn't get to them....

glad you saved the birds!

i do try to run 6 days a week. sometimes 7, but if i need a day off i'll take it. in my training for nyc i'm hoping to run more 7's than 6's but we'll see how my body handles it... today for example i did not want to get out of bed and run so i didn't. :) hopefully the weather isn't too humid this weekend so i don't skip another day!

Ohhhh poor birdies! Nice work on saving them though. Poor mama bird! Hope you have a great memorial day weekend.

By the way, they re-paved the Zoo Park paths and they are SOOOO nice. Just a FYI!

Well, perhaps they learned to fly a bit sooner out of necessity?

It's always a tough call about what to do with baby birds when they get separated from their mother, but it sounds like you made the right choices! Hope they're safe.

yeah, always hard to know what to do with baby birds, but I'm pretty sure keeping them as pets would not have been the best option! Hopefully they're still hopping around somewhere very happy and alive. :)

I'm sure they're fine... the mama bird was probably watching over them until they were ready to fly.

Have a great weekend, Papa Bird!

Poor birdies... I hate it when that happens, (in a very Billy Crystal way). There isn't much you can do, 'it's natures way'. :(
